Audi hamilton race week and where to from here?

Home from race week and what an awsome time we had....Best call i heard for the week was "this is pretty much just schoolies for yachties" and that it was! a weeklong celebration of sailing on an exotic island with rich boats rich cars and gorgeous women all round. The wind didnt really work the way we wanted it too but we still got a few days out foiling and alot of interest and it made for awsome conversation at night time at the bar..... I think we all vowed to return next year wether we're sailing or not! Well now back to reality..... Start work next monday with another mining company which should be good and im sure ill be very much over inductions come next friday. We have our local club opening of the season this weekend which is always good fun providing it isnt light like last year. Perth is all booked and should be fun regardless of how many boats turn up and i'm looking forward to what hopefully will be a breezy regatta. Now hopefully we can get some boats to turn up for sail Brisbane and spark some more interest in Queensland! So if any of you interstaters are interested in doing sail bris shoot us an email at pearso_mothsailing@hotmail.com as this hopefully will be the proposed venue for the 2011/2012 nationals.

Hamo race week

On Hamilton with myself Dave Barnes, Ben rankine and Rohan veal. Managed to finnally get out yesterday late afternoon with rigging space limited and pain in the arse event stickers to be put on we got out there and put on a demo for everyone at the yachtclub, and passing yachts coming back into the harbour. The heat is here is insane even for a queenslander im feeling it. We had around 10 knots. Boat didnt feel well setup at alll and either did i! But still had fun and had a good gybe battle with Dave down the shore right infront of the club which wowed the crowds and was good fun. Theres a report from Virginia veal on sailworld with some pics here

Anyways time for breakfast and fiddle with boat before going out this arvo.

Screwed

Day 1 of airlie

must say its such an awsome place but the order for breeze is a tad bit late or simply...just not coming? Myself and ben rigged up and checked all the fittings to make sure nothing had come loose on the trip. Decided its be a good idea to put a screwdriver into my hand whilst unscrewing my tiller....were off to a flying start! no breeze, sore hand but atleast the suns out, beers cold and the company is um quite nice as in foreign backpackers walking passed in bikinis as were rigging our boats.....cant complain there. Were off to Hamilton race week to do some sailing with rohan tomorrow so we'll see how that goes apparently there is chance of afternoon sea breeze...fingers crossed.

My girl is home

Finally the boat is home. I went and picked it up from Queensland Yachtcraft today and she looks fantastic. Nedless to say i have spent most of the day running over everything replacing ropes and suss looking pins and what not and slowly putting her back together. She is now red ontop which is a sexy new look for her. Im still waiting on the wingbars to be touched up but should have them in the next few days :) gave her a light buff followed by a wash then polish to get or the grime and whatnot off her so shes super slick. I am super happy to have her back and cannot wait to jump on her again.

Accomodation for hamilton is sorted, thanks Ben!!!! and should be a really fun regatta with lots of sprint races and the occasional beer or two or eight.

Still Boatless and teetheless

well the op went all well and im full recovered. But i still dont have a boat. Which sucks as the breeze has been pumping and offshore the water is crystal blue and completely flat!!!! except for yesterday where we had a typical summer breeze....Dad managed to get out whilel i was at work.....i think he is secretly training to beat me and if we have foiless regatta i think i could be in trouble as he has some serious lowriding speed. I have been working with a sail maker and have been discussing the prospect of making a sail which i am looking forward to investing a bit of time and money into the idea. But this may not be an option untill after nationals as i have a new sail coming from ka. Anyways tomorrow im going to the boatbuilder to help out so he can get my boat done hopefully for training next weekend. Other than that all i can do is look at side and look at the trees blowing back and forth and wish i had my boat.

Saw Jaw

Got 5 teethe removed yesterday so im a bit sore today...but not as bad as i thought id be. Although the food ads on tv are killers....im confined to soup and baby mush...banana custard is rad though, bonus! On another note breeze has been perfect 15 to 20 offshore completely flat.....pretty cold cant wait for the SEA ultra warm long sleeve to come.

Could probably go for a sail but i dont think the doctors or mother would be too impressed. So ive been tinkering and taking the boat apart checking everything and getting it ready for the boatbuilder on monday for the week. Got sailing presentations for the sailing club next weekend the theme is black and white....any ideas anyone? anyways heres a pic of the two moths rigged at kbsc for some training looks nice eh?

Im back

After deleting my blog and having a break from the world wide mothosphere i have decided to get back on the bandwagon just to update with everything going on up here in northern Queensland as we are a bit disconnected from the rest of the moth world to a degree. Well since geelong i have learnt alot about setup and how to and not to fly upwind. Overall i think i am 10 times faster then what i was at geelong and feel as though i am fitter but anyone can be a world champion on there own blog so only time will tell i guess and hamilton island race week will be a good time to get a speed gage on the other guys.

Since the nationals well it was a big kick up the arse to get faster and lose the ole puppy fat which meant hitting the gym and doing a bit of cross training eating healthy etc etc but most importantly learn to sail the boat with more time on the water. As ive learnt you can do all the training in the world on land but the best sailing fitness comes from time on the water itself. So ive really tried to keep up the on water sessions as much as possible and when you only work half a year it makes it fairly easy to do.

Regattas

Club racing has been fun with alot of perfect weather allowing winnning more comfortably. We had a may day allboats regatta over the may long weekend with 15-20 knot south east and fairly rough seas...not so perfect but it was so awsome for the challenge downwind picking which troughs to gybe on and agressive steering up and down faces of waves and winning by 20 mins on corrected time from sharpies mg's tasars and other mixed monohulls.

Airlie beach regatta at easter was fun but myself ben rankine and justin spillman ended up doing alot more promotional work then racing which was still fun and scored alot of interest aswell as some sick shots.

Townville centenery sprint series Queens birthday

We had mixed weather and 4 foilers and this was dads first regatta on his homebuilt foiler. He absolutely smoked me in the non foiling races....(hmmm must do some work on the lowriding i think) but as soon as the breeze came up i was gone and could not be touched. Ended up 3rd overall in mixed divisionand 1st moth which wasnt too bad i had an ocs and missed a start plus 3 non foiling races out of 9. happy with boat speed on the foils and have some real positives coming out of this regatta.

Tomorrow i go under the knife and get 5 teethe removed which puts me out of action for the weekend and means ill be confined to soups for a few days.... which means i miss out on winter series but that isnt such a bad thing, light fickle breezes cool water...yeh ill pass on that. The boat goes in to queensland yachtcraft next week to get carbon on wingtramp tracks just to stiffen them up.
